Breastfeeding Mothers

For my project I am looking for breastfeeding mothers living in North Lancashire to sit for a photographic environmental portrait, preferably in their own home, but not essential, as long as it is one of their ‘comfy feeding spots’.

The aim of the project is to communicate mothers as individuals defining themselves, whilst conveying the normality of breastfeeding.  The emphasis is on the importance of the visuality of breastfeeding within our visual culture.

Mothers will receive copies of the images via email.

Big Latch Event, Morecambe, 2013

What a fantastic day!  The atmosphere was great.  The turn about brilliant with 40 mothers and babies, with various others accompanying.

Hosted by the Breastfeeding Network at the famous Art Deco, Midland Hotel (featured in the TV Series, Agatha Christie’s Poirot ‘Double Sin’ with David Suchet).

Big Latch On – Event Coming Up

I am looking forward to attending and photo documenting this event.

On the 1 – 7th of August every year, to raise awareness of the benefits of breastfeeding and the need for global support, the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action organises World Breastfeeding Week.

World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated in 120 countries and marks the signing of the WHO/UNICEF document Innocenti Declaration, which lists the benefits of breastfeeding, plus global and governmental goals.

To mark this occasion on Friday 2nd and Saturday 3rd August 2013 at 10:30am thousands of breastfeeding women and their babies/children across the world will gather in their own communities to take part in the Big Latch On, a synchronized breastfeeding event in multiple locations.

The Morecambe and Lancaster Star Buddies have registered an event to take place locally.

Our local Big Latch On will take place at The Midland Hotel, Rotunda Bar, Morecambe, Friday 2nd August at 10.30.

We ask women to arrive at 10am for registration. The Hotel will provide all women with complimentary juice and biscuits, and Lisa Libby-Inman, Morecambe Star Buddy Coordinator, will present each mother with a certificate to mark the event!

2013 is the second year the Star Buddies have organised  this event. Please come and support this event and encourage breastfeeding mothers to join us at this iconic location in Morecambe and lets beat last year’s record for synchronised breastfeeding!
